Digital Goa, May 8- Hundreds of residents from Vhodlem Bhat, Shankarwadi, and Borbhat areas in Taleigao are grappling with a severe water crisis for over a month now, following contamination of the water supply due to E. coli. Sewage water seeping into the corroded water pipeline network, is said to likely cause of the contamination. Speaking to media, local political leader and Taleigao resident Dattaprasad Naik has raised serious concerns over the issue. He alleged that the problem stems from the faulty design of the Rs 200-crore sewerage line project. “The mixing of sewage is already affecting 15% of Taleigao, where the sewerage line was implemented. The remaining 85% will suffer the same fate once the full system is commissioned unless urgent corrective measures are taken,” he warned. Francis Coelho, another political leader, in an open letter to local MLA Jennifer Monserrate, attributed the crisis to unplanned development and poor governance. PWD is in the process of replacing the pipeline and shifting hundreds of service connections, but the process is expected to take time. As of now, with taps running dry residents are relying on tankers or bottled water for daily use.
