Digital Goa, Feb 16 – Goa recorded the highest daily maximum temperature in the country on Monday with the mercury touching 37.9 °C. This was also the highest February temperature recorded in Goa in the last few decades. Only Mumbai, in the entire country, with 37.3 °C was close to Goa’s record maximum temperature. Goa may face a scorching summer and heat wave in coming days, warn experts. “This record high temperature is bad news for quality of life”, said scientist Dr Nandkumar Kamat. He attributed the high temperature to bulldozing of hills, destruction of urban green belts and creation of new concrete heat reflecting canyons. The only solution to rising temperature is to create massive natural heat sinks and protect green cover, he added.
