State govt’s ‘Goa Taxi’ App to be launched on Dec 19

Digital Goa, Nov 30 – State govt’s cab aggregator app ‘Goa Taxi’ will be launched jointly by the state Transport Dept and Tourism Dept on Dec 19, informed Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho today. Both the departments held a meeting today to decide on finer details regarding the app, Goa Electronic Limited(GEL) will be the aggregator, Mauvin added. “All 7 Taxi Associations in Goa will be asked to join the app. The app will be in the hands of the taxi business operators. They will be the ones running it,” he asserted. The taxi operators who join the app will also be made beneficiaries of welfare schemes run through the extra profit that the app makes, he further added. “Transport dept will be regulatory body and owner of the aggregator app,” said Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte. Pointing out that Goa is competing with other states for tourist footfall, the minister said that the state needs to be in competitive range. We have to ensure that people visiting Goa carry proper experiences with them, he added. Not only tourists but locals too can make use of the app, said Rohan.
Taxi Operators in Goa are opposing cab aggregator apps and have held several protests against efforts of the govt to push such apps.
