High Court forfeits security deposits of Rachol and Colva Panchayat for failing to set up MRF

Digital Goa, Nov 16 – High Court today forfeited security deposits of Rs 1.5 lakh each of Rachol and Colva Panchayats pointing out that they have failed to start the mandatory Material Recovery Facility (MRF) for garbage handling within stipulated timeframe. The court has also said that time extension to make the MRF operational will be granted only after Rs 1.5 lakh each are deposited by both the panchayats as security deposits within a week. Next hearing in the Suo Motu petition by the High Court is scheduled on Jan 9. Two other Panchayats which had asked for extension of time till Feb 28 to set up the MRF have been asked to pay security deposits for the delay. The 11 Panch member St Lawrence panchayat has been asked to pay Rs 1.10 lakh and 7 panch member Bhatim Panchayat has been asked to pay Rs 70,000.
