Govt to instruct Panchayats and Municipalities not to issue licences and water connections to constructions without proper sewerage plan: Cabral
Digital Goa, Nov 21 – With the objective of putting a curb on river pollution, Goa govt will instruct licensing authorities like panchayats and municipalities not to issue new licenses and water connections to new construction if they do not have a proper sewerage plan in place, informed PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral today. He said the practice is being followed by Pollution Control Boards of many other states in the country. The minister asserted that licensing authorities like panchayats and municipalities are equally responsible for ensuring that rivers do not get polluted due to direct release of sewerage and dumping of garbage. The minister claimed that PWD is doing its part and has taken up the work of repairing old and damaged sewerage lines. He lamented that people are not ready give an inch of their land for diversion of sewerage lines for repairing damaged lines. “PWD is not a magician to do things overnight,” Cabral asserted. The minister also announced a pay hike to 51 junior engineers and assistant technicians who have been working under PWD society for past 10 years or so. As per the recommendations Junior Engineers will be paid around Rs 30,000 and Technical Assistants will be paid Rs 45,000.
