Digital Goa, Oct 10 – Goa govt will implement a new norm wherein the onus of ensuring that customers do not resort to drunken driving, will be on the bars and restaurants serving liquor. Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said that taxis will be stationed near prominent Hotels and Restaurants so that drunk guests can take a taxi home. “Put him in taxi and send him,” Mauvin said. They can collect the car next day, he added. Only those guests who are not drunk should be allowed to drive the vehicle, he added. He said the details will be decided after discussion with CM Sawant. Referring to those who drink and drive as ‘live bombs’, Mauvin said that the department will take strict measures and impose heavy fines as per new MVA on such people. He also said that he has asked Transport dept to give target to every officer, to ‘ruthlessly’ ensure that report of every violation gets filed. He said that in Goa, violators generally tend to call up influential persons to avert action and penalty. “Want this to discontinue,” he added.
Meanwhile, Godinho also said that by the end of this week or by next Monday, Goa Miles services will commence at the Dabolim Airport. Stating that he was advised against the decision of promoting app based cab aggregators as ‘some taxi operators are mafia’, Mauvin said, “I don’t bother about my safety. I have got guts to face the mafia.”
