Handicraft village to come up in 16,000 sqr mtr land at Sanguem

Digital Goa , Oct 17 – Handicraft Village worth Rs 20 crore will be set up in 16,000 sqr mtr land at Sanguem, informed CM Pramod Sawant today. Center will contribute Rs 10 crore fund and state will put in another Rs 10 crore, he said. Sawant was speaking at the Kunbi Handloom revival initiative under Off Farmers Producer Organisation (OFPO). Funding to the tune of Rs 50 lakh has been provided by NABARD for the initiative, wherein, Goa govt plans to revive the 2 handloom centers at Korgao, Sanguem. OFPOs is a formal rural entity formed by artisans, weavers, craftsmen etc. CM also asked his administration to issue General Regulations(GR) for 100 % use of Kunbi Shawls at govt functions to popularize its use. He also informed that as of now 1000 woman- 500 in North and 500 in South Goa have been trained as part of the initiative. Sawant assured of easy access to loans with very low interest rate to all those registering as Artisans with the Handicraft dept.
