Digital Goa, Sept 27 – Goa govt will hold a static point rabies vaccination campaign at 143 centers in 12 Talukas across Goa for vaccination of dogs. The campaign to be held in association with Mission Rabies project will commence on World Rabies Day- Sept 28 and go on till Nov 1. The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services has also launched hotline 7744029586 to help citizens connect with the vaccination teams. Govt has spent around Rs 3.7 crore is the last 6 years and vaccinated over 9 lakh dogs, under the project, informed Minister Nilkath Halarnkar. Annually around 90,000 dogs are vaccinated in the state. Goa has achieved rabies free status as no rabies deaths have been reported in the state for past 4 years. However, as neighbouring states are not rabies free as yet, to maintain Goa’s rabies free status the campaign will go on at the cost of around Rs 66.54 lakh per year. “Vaccination, surveillance and awareness are part of the project. Oral rabies vaccine is also in the offing,” informed Dept officials. 4 vaccination centers situated in border Talukas of Sattari, Canacona, Bicholim and Pernem will operate continuously even after the drive to ensure that dogs from the neighbouring states do not spread the virus, informed officials.
