HC dismisses petition challenging reservation of same wards. Reserves order on OBC reservations

Digital Goa, July 5- High Court today dismissed the petition challenging the manner in which women, SC and ST ward reservations were done by the State Election Commission. SEC Counsel, S N Joshi contended that there is no pattern for reservation of wards as such. Court however has reserved the order related to OBC reservations. SEC further pointed out that the limit of reserving 50 % of the seats should be applicable only in case of SC/ST and OBC and not as far as women reservation is concerned as 1/3 of the seats are to be reserved for women. Yet another petition challenging reservation of Ward 1 of Socorro Panchayat has been withdrawn.
As regards OBC reservations , SEC counsel told the court that SEC did not get the data in compliance with triple test. “In the absence of that, all OBC seats are converted to general seats and we are going ahead with the election process,” he added.
