Govt to explore other option if HC asks to hold panchayat polls without OBC reservation

Digital Goa, July 5 – State govt has taken a stand before the High Court that it wants the OBC reservation to be done for this panchayat elections and is ready to explore all options, said Advocate General(AG) Devidas Pangam. We are trying out level best to get the OBC reservation done for this panchayat elections. We will look at all options including moving the High Court, Supreme Court ,approaching the State Election Commission etc, he said. “High Court has reserved the order regarding OBC reservation for now. If the order goes against us, there are 2-3 other things which we can do,” he added. Citing case of Madhya Pradesh wherein the state was allowed by the Supreme Court to go ahead with the elections by doing OBC reservation based on interim data, AG said, “That option is open for us.”
“OBC reservation can be declared in one weeks’ time according to me. If proper material is there on record it is just a matter of analyzing that data and applying it for the purpose of reservation in each panchayat. That exercise is permissible and possible,” Pangam said. We will not give it up . We will try our best till the end, he asserted.
