Power hike done to recover cost of street light maintence: Power Minister

Digital Goa, June 28 – Power minister Sudin Dhavalikar has justified the hike in power tariff saying that it is done to streamline street lights in the State. The revenue accrued from the power tariff hike will go towards maintenance of streetlights, he said. The power hike for domestic consumers is only 5 paise per unit while the more burden is on put on Industries and HTL consumers who will pay additional 6 to 8 paise per unit. This is the result of the new street lights policy which has been implemented from June 1. As per this policy, maintenance of all the street lights in the state are brought under the purview of Electricity Department.
