16 including Gujarat native mastermind arrested for duping US citizens using fake call center at Old Goa
Digital Goa, June 10 – 16 persons including 8 women were nabbed by Cyber Crime Cell of Goa police today for operating a fake call center and duping American Citizens on by impersonating as Amazon operatives. Police has arrested the mastermind behind the fraud, identified as 32-year-old Gujarat resident Mohammad Ramji Dhanvi alias Roy Fernandes. The call center operated from a rented bungalow at Od Goa. Police have recovered 14 laptops and 8 mobiles. First 8 people were arrested and taking cue from them the remaining 8 were also nabbed. Police said that the under the garb of being Amazon operatives, several US citizens were defrauded by making them share confidential gift card details of values ranging from 500 to 1,000 USD in exchange for restoring wallet balances from their allegedly hacked Amazon accounts. Incidentally, a similar racket, also operated by Gujrat resident was unearthed at Porvorim some time back.
