FIRs lodged in hill cutting cases at Arpora and Calangute : Vishwajeet Rane

Digital Goa, May 20 – FIR has been lodged for hill cutting and violating section 17-A of TCP Act 1974 in hill cutting cases at Arpora and Calangute, informed Forest Minister Vishwajeet Rane. Forest Dept received one complaint against illegal hill cutting at Survey 94/1 Arpora in Calangute Constituency and another complaint against illegal hill cutting and construction activity in Survey No 51/8 in Calangute falling within the jurisdiction of Candolim village. FIR has been registered in both the cases, informed the minister.
▪ Offence booked in 29 mangroves destruction matter at Merces
Forest Dept today booked an offence in the mangrove destruction case at Merces, for violation of the Goa Preservation of Trees Act, 1984. Notice has also been issued to the land owners, informed Forest Minister Vishwajeet Rane. 29 mangrove trees were destroyed, he added. Merces residents and farmers had accused the local tenant association of illegally cutting mangroves and damaging the sluice gates. Sub-Divisional Forest Officer (SDFO) and Panjim Range staff inspected the mangroves destruction site at Merces after receiving a report from the Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (APCCF) . “The land belonged to Communidade and the offence is committed by their tenant association,” Rane added.
