Digital Goa, May 9 – With the implementation of new Motor Vehicle Act in the state from April 1, Transport departments income in view of fines collected has doubled, and traffic rule violation offences have reduced by 50 %, informed Minister Mauvin Godinho. People have become more disciplined as raised fines are acting as a deterrent, he added.
1200 electric buses in Goa in the next 5 years
Goa govt aims at increasing the number to electric buses plying in the state to 1,200 over the next five years. Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said that he has urged Union Heavy Industries Ministry to allot 1,200 electric buses for the state. That will amount to nearly 80%of the public transport buses, he said. By the end of the year Goa will get 100 electric buses already sanctioned by the center. The 250 more buses sought by the state, are also on the way to being sanctioned, he added. However, we will buy diesel buses too as per the need, he added. He also proposed setting up of charging stations in Kadamba properties in Goa. Mauvin also mooted a policy to regulate public transport vehicles.
