Digital Goa, Mar 9- Elections for 186 panchayats in Goa will be held in the last week of May 2022, keeping in view the onset of monsoons and the reopening of schools in June, informed State Election Commissioner W. V. Ramanamurthy.
913 suggestions for modification in draft delimitation of wards
Total 913 suggestion and modification applications were received by SEC for corrections to the draft panchayat ward delimitation proposal – 650 in North Goa and 263 in South Goa. Most were related to change of serial number of wards, duplication of household numbers with same number appearing in multiple wards, natural boundaries and geographical continuity and nearness to the polling booth. “All suggestions are being considered. Hearings will go on till March 12,” said SEC.
Timeline – Panchayat Elections
Feb 24 – Ward delimitation draft was made public for scrutiny and suggestions in the office of Mamletdar and Talathi .
March 4 – last date to submit suggestions and modifications to draft ward delimitation.
March 14 – Final draft of delimitation of wards to be submitted to State Elections Commission by Mamlatdars, EROS and AEROS
March 17- Scrutinized and Modified Draft Delimitation of wards to be sent to govt for comments.
April 4 – Last date for government to submit comments
April 11 – On or before April 11 final delimitation of wards will be published
April 12 – On orBefore April 12 ward reservation will be finalised and sent to govt for consultation
April 22 – Govt to return the ward reservation data with comments to SEC
Last week of May 2022 – Panchayat Elections, exact date to be finalised ad notified
Reservations of wards based on wardwise SC, ST and OBC population –SEC
Directorate of Panchayat has been asked to submit ward wise SC, ST and OBC population data to facilitate the reservation of wards, informed SEC. The data submitted to SEC as of now was village wise. Reservation of wards will be determined based on old ward number and nature of reservation i.e. Women, OBC, SC and ST, informed SEC.
