DGP proposes CCTV cameras at 30 potential illegal sand mining sites to ‘end the entire crime

Digital Goa, Mar 23 – Goa DGP has proposed CCTVs at the 30 odd potential sites of illegal mining as a mechanism to ‘end the entire crime’. The suggestions have been incorporated in the minutes of the meeting held on March 19 by Goa DGP with the police department to discuss the issues relating to illegal sand mining and implementation of the directions issued by the High Court. The same were placed before the High Court today in the matter related to PIL filed by Goa River Sand Protectors Network against illegal mining in Goa. The police department has identified 30 potential sites for illegal mining and DGP has proposed CCTVs with high resolution cameras at strategic locations near these sites. “It will end the entire crime. In fact feed from all locations can also be brought at police stations concerned 24 x 7. It will be the best piece of evidence,” stated the directions issued by DGP during the meeting.
The department has also released several numbers using which public can complain about illegal sand mining to police control room – 112 ,100 and 7875756000 for video messages and whatsapp messages.
55 cases of illegal sand mining registered in 2021
Total 55 cases of illegal sand mining were registered in the State in 2021, out of which 43 cases have been charge sheeted and 12 are finalized. Of the finalised cases 9 are of North District, 2 of South District and 1 of Coastal Security police station.
