Music legend with Goa connect, Lata Mangeshkar no more; Goa declares 3 days mourning; PM’s virtual meet cancelled

Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away at the age of 92 today. She was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on January 8 after she tested positive for Covid-19. She was under treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) over the past couple of weeks. After showing signs of improvement recently, her health condition deteriorated. Unfortunately, she passed away today morning, leaving the entire nation in a state of grief.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual meeting, & all BJP programs including the release of poll manifesto, and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s meeting, stand cancelled , however Small scale constituency-level programs will be held, after honouring Lata Mangeshkar , informed state BJP.
Expressing grief over the demise of Lata Mangeshkar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerise people.”
▪ Three day state mourning in Goa
The State Government has declared three days State Mourning, i.e from February 6 to 8, 2022 due to sad demise of Lata Mangueshkar, the Nightingale of India, states official press release.

▪ Lata didi sang record 30,000 songs in 36 languages
Mangeshkar had an extraordinary career spanning over half a century, singing more than 30,000 songs across 36 languages. But it was her work in Bollywood, India’s Hindi film industry, that made her a national icon

▪ Lata’s contribution for Goa’s liberation movement
Lata Mangeshkar had her contribution in the struggle for the liberation of Goa. She agreed to sing, free of cost, at a concert that was organised on May 2, 1954 at Hirabaug in Pune to raise funds to procure arms for the fight against the Portuguese. This, she did at the behest of music composer and revolutionary fighter Sudhir Phadke.

▪ Lata Mangeshkar’s Goa connection
Lata Mangeshkar’s father and accomplished Marathi theatre personality Pt. Deenanath Mangeshkar, popularly known as Dina, was born at Mangeshi, Ponda . Though Lata was born in Indore, she had emotional connect with Goa, the land of her father’s birth. She was a regular visitor to her ancestral home in Mangeshi in Ponda Taluka.
