Goa to be soon equipped with 2 genome sequencing machines

Digital Goa Dec 30 – Goa Health Department will soon be equipped with 2 genome sequencing machines capable of testing several covid variants. One of the machine will be procured with the help of USAID and Jhpeigo (Johns Hopkins Program for International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics) while the other one will be procured by the Goa govt, informed Health Minister Vishwajit Rane. Presently covid samples from Goa are sent to Pune labs for Genome sequencing.
“The govt of Goa is already in process of procuring a genome sequencing machine. USAID & Jhpeigo has already given us assurances in this regard.I have issued directions to Dean GMC to pursue proposal for another machine that we’d already submitted to the govt for clearance,” he added.

“In view of the new year celebrations, it is very important that the expert committee makes strong recommendations to the government, so that we can act accordingly,” Rane added.
