Churchill submits letter of merger of NCP with TMC to speaker Patnekar

Digital Goa, Dec 13 – NCP MLA Churchill Alemao today submitted a letter to the Goa Assembly Speaker Rajesh Patnekar stating that NCP Goa Legislative party is henceforth merged with Trinamool Congress (TMC). Being the lone MLA of NCP, merger letter from him complies with the requirement of consent of 2/3rd of the party MLAs for the merger. Alemao claimed that being the lone NCP MLA, he represents 100 per cent of the party’s legislative wing and hence, the merger is valid as per 10th Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Alemao asserted that he has not resigned as MLA but should now be considered as TMC MLA. “I waited for one long year for Congress and NCP alliance,” he lamented.
Once speaker accepts the merger, TMC will open its account in the Goa Legislative assembly with one MLA even before assembly elections .

Will speaker consider the merger valid of disqualify lone MLA? asks Congress
Reacting to the development, Leader of opposition Digambar Kamat questioned as to whether it will be considered a valid merger or Churchill will be disqualified in accordance with tenth schedule of the constitution. “Will the Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly allow merger of NCP into TMC in Goa to endorse Goa Congress’s stand that TMC is part of BJP Parivaar or disqualify the lone NCP MLA in accordance with the Xth Schedule of the Constitution?,” asked Kamat.
