Two remanded in ATM ‘tampering’ attempt

A 27-year-old youth from Carambolim-Tiswadi and a girl, who accompanied him and who were arrested by Cuncolim police in connection with alleged attempt to break open an ATM in Cuncolim, were produced before Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Margao and their two-day remand was obtained.

Police said that the alleged accused Dilip Kankonker, aged 27 and V Gawas (21) were arrested and booked under sections 454, 380, 511 read with 34 of IPC.

Police have recovered from the youth all the tools used by him to break open the ATM.

As per Cuncolim police investigation, Dilip Kankonker entered into an ATM booth and attempted to break open the ATM
with the help of tools he had with him.

According to police, when Dilip tried to break open the ATM, the main office of the bank in Hyderabad received an alert that someone was tampering with the money vending machine.

Cuncolim police said that they received a phone call from Hyderabad that someone was tampering with the ATM and accordingly a police team rushed to the spot and manage to catch hold of the alleged accused.

Police said that the manager of the said bank has lodged the complaint based on that offence has been registered. Further investigation is on by PSI Arun Endro under the supervision of PI Gurudas Kadam.
