Tourism policy gets cabinet nod

Focus to be on hinterland, health, heritage tourism

Panaji: The state cabinet on Friday granted approval to the Goa Tourism Policy, focussing on hinterland tourism, ecotourism, heritage tourism and health tourism.

Deputy Chief Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar, who is the Tourism Minister, informed that the state cabinet has approved the Goa Tourism Policy.

“The policy will focus on hinterland tourism, ecotourism, heritage tourism and health tourism. We will take forward tourism in Goa as per the policy,” he said.

The cabinet has also granted ex-facto approval for transferring 4 lakh square metres of land, owned by the Sanjivani sugar factory, for setting up of the National Forensic Sciences University and the International Law University in Dharbandora.

Power Minister Nilesh Cabral informed that the cabinet has cleared the proposal for electrification of 150 more houses in rural areas using renewable energy sources. “150 houses in rural areas are already electrified using solar power,” he said. Health Minister Vishwajit Rane informed that the cabinet has cleared pending proposals worth over Rs 100 crore pertaining to COVID-related medicines and equipment during the pandemic.

The cabinet also cleared the proposal for opening a zonal agricultural office in Mormugao taluka.
