Sudin, Churchill, Khaunte meet Mamata separately

Panaji: Political activities have intensified following the arrival of All India Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Goa.

Senior Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) MLA and former deputy chief minister Ramakrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar, MGP president Pandurang ‘Deepak’ Dhavalikar, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) legislator Churchill Alemao, along with his daughter Valanka Alemao, and Independent Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte met the West Bengal Chief Minister at the International Centre, Goa on Friday afternoon.

All the leaders met the TMC chief separately and said that it was a courtesy visit. The meetings have indicated that Banerjee was engaged in bringing all non-BJP and non-Congress leaders together to forge a strong force to defeat the ruling BJP government in the state.

Speaking to media, Sudin Dhavalikar said Banerjee had given him an appointment three days back and as a protocol, he, along with party office bearers, met her. “There was not much talk on politics during the meeting with the TMC chief. As she invited us, we spoke on some issues regarding future prospects of Goa,” he said.

Dhavalikar said MGP was formed by the first chief minister of Goa Bahusaheb Bandodkar and it will never be merged in any of the political parties. “The TMC has announced that it will contest all 40 assembly constituencies at the upcoming state assembly polls,” he said.

Dhavalikar said that his party had earlier met Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal and today they met Banerjee. “We will meet leaders of other political parties including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who will be in Goa on Saturday, if he invites us,” he added.

Independent MLA Khaunte said it was a courtesy visit. However, the Porvorim MLA said that during the discussion, he shared his views with her. “Basically, I shared my thoughts that everybody should come together for the upcoming assembly polls to send the ruling BJP home,” he said.

Former chief minister Alemao, who was accompanied by his daughter, said that it was a courtesy visit and he will disclose his plan at the right time.
