West Bengal CM to visit temples and meet fishermen
Panaji: West Bengal Chief Minister and chairperson of All India Trinamool Congress Mamata Banerjee arrived in Goa on Thursday on a three-day visit to the state.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) national vice president Luizinho Faleiro, Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar, Goa TMC leader Lavoo Mamledar and others welcomed Banerjee at the Dabolim airport.
The security arrangement at the airport was tight fearing tension between workers of TMC and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who were present with black flags in their hands. After landing, the West Bengal Chief Minister headed straight for the International Centre Goa at Dona Paula.
On Friday, Banerjee will hold a meeting with Goa TMC at 10 am, following which at 12 pm she will interact with fishermen community at the Betim jetty. In the afternoon at 3.30 pm, she will visit the Mangueshi temple in Priol. Later, at 4 pm, she will visit the Mahalsa Narayani temple at Mardol. At 4.30 pm, she will be at the Tapobhoomi in Kundaim and at 5.30 in the evening Banerjee will interact with civil society members at the International Centre Goa.
Trinamool Congress has decided to contest the forthcoming state assembly elections in full steam. It is expected that some high profile politicians may meet the TMC chief during her maiden visit to the state. Meanwhile, Goa TMC has strongly condemned the BJP for their vitriolic campaign ahead of Banerjee’s visit to Goa. Former MLA and TMC leader Lavoo Mamledar said he has never seen such type of hatred in Goa.
