Mapusa: Stating that Goa has got many job opportunities, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, on Wednesday said, “Country’s first shipbuilding cluster is starting in Goa which is big, and also there are leading pharmaceutical firms in Goa.”
He was addressing a gathering at Swayampurna Yuva Job Fair and Career Guidance programme at DM’s college at Assagao.
The programme was inaugurated at the hands of CM Pramod Sawant; Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate, MLA Glenn Ticlo, MLA Joshua D’Souza, DMC chairman Shrikrishna Pokle, labor commissioner Raju Gavas and others were present
Addressing the gathering, Sawant said that state government has passed a bill to set up a private university in the state, and three universities have shown interest.
“Skill and design universities will be set up in Goa which will provide opportunities to youths. BJP government provides various schemes as well as grants for education to provide employment opportunities to the youth. Representatives of about 60 companies have participated in this job fair. Also, 25 government department stalls have been set up” said the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister also announced that the National Youth Parliament will be held on November 10 and 11 at Shyam Prasad Stadium. He said that debates will be held on national as well as state issues.
Monserrate said that such job fairs provide a platform for one to one interaction with employees, enhance networking skills, and provide career opportunities. Through labour department various initiatives are taken for the benefit of the youth.
“Since February 2021 around 287 candidates got provisional letters, and through CII have got over 500 employment opportunities in the private sector. 111 Goan startups have been registered and Rs 1.5 crore has been disbursed to beneficiaries of startup policy scheme,” she said.
MLA Joshua D’Souza said that youth should not run after government jobs. There are also many opportunities in the private sector.
“Before applying for government jobs, one should work in the private sector and gain work experience. The government gets its revenue from the private sector. Therefore, no one should underestimate the private sector,” he said.
