BJP refutes allegations of corruption raised by Malik

Meghalaya Governor should step down before playing politics: Tanawade

Panaji: Stating that if Governor of Meghalaya Satya Pal Malik wants to play politics, then he should first resign from the constitutional post he is holding, the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday said that the allegations made by Malik were in fact the manifestations of the inherent hatred of the journalist Rajdeep Sardesai towards BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Addressing a press conference at the city BJP headquarters, state party president Sadanand Tanawade said that Sardesai, “as a part of a conspiracy” put words in the mouth of the Governor of Meghalaya, during the interview and took out from him what he wanted.

Tanawade also informed that he has already briefed the BJP national leaders about the allegations made by Malik on the state government and the Chief Minister.

He further said that when Malik was the Governor of Goa, he had praised the Pramod Sawant government for managing well the COVID situation in the state.

It may be recalled that Malik in a recent interview to ‘India Today’ had charged the government of corruption in areas like food distribution during corona pandemic and construction of new Raj Bhavan building.

Refuting all allegations of corruption made by Malik, Tanawade said all guidelines of the central government were followed by the state government vis-à-vis food supply during COVID

lockdown. “In fact, the people were provided food by various sources including NGOs and humanitarian institutions, free of cost, in addition to the food inspectors from the department of civil supplies and consumer affairs keeping a vigil over the sale of essential commodities to the public by grocery shops,” he noted.

The state president of the BJP also said that the existing Raj Bhavan building is old and the government had proposed to maintain it as a heritage site while constructing new building as residence for Goa governor, within the premises of the Raj Bhavan.

“In fact, when Malik was the Governor of Goa, he wanted to instal a lift in the existing Raj Bhavan, which could not happen, as the old building was not in good shape,” he added.

Replying to a question, Tanawade said the allegations and charges made by Malik on the state government and the Chief Minister would not have any impact on the prospects of his party at the Goa assembly elections.

Answering another question, the state BJP president stated that Malik was not removed from the post of Governor of Goa, but shifted to the same post in Meghalaya.

Replying to yet another question, Tanawade said that he has no idea as to whether the interview with Malik was a part of any political game.
