In a shocking incident Mapusa police arrested a man for attempting to murder his 60-year- old mother by attacking her with a sharp weapon and strangulated her with both hands. The injured mother is undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim.
According to police the incident took place on Saturday evening at around 4 pm at Shetye waddo in Duler wherein one accused identified as Akash Dixit (26) attacked his mother Anjali Dixit (60 years) who was residing with him in the flat on Saturday evening.
Police informed that the accused attempted to kill his mother by assaulting her with a screwdriver and strangulated her with both his hands further causing injuries on her vital body parts. Police said that on hearing the screams, the neighbour rushed to the flat and rescued the victim as the accused was trying to strangulate her.
Police said the victim sustained serious head injuries.
On receipt of information Mapusa police rushed to the spot and took the accused into custody. The injured mother was rushed to the District Hospital Peddem and further shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim for further treatment.
Acting on the complaint of Maureen D›Souza, the neighbour, police registered an offence under Section 307of the Indian Penal Code against the accused and arrested him.
Under the guidance of Inspector Tushar Lotlikar, PSI Viraj Korgaonkar is investigating the case.
