PWD officials, on Wednesday, collected water samples from different water tanks in the Aldona constituency for testing the water quality, following the issue of discoloration of water supplied cropping up.
There was a complaint of muddy water being supplied by the PWD; and concerns were being raised over the quality of water being supplied.
PWD officials said that there was a breach of Tillari canal, due to which water turned red in colour. The issue was raised with Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo, who further took up the matter with the PWD.
A team of PWD officials along with assistant engineer of Assonora water treatment plant Caitan Menezes visited various households and collected water samples supplied by the PWD.
The samples were collected on September 22, 23 and on September 25 from various places in the Aldona Constituency like Quitla, Soddo, Satarshet, Nachinola, Ecoxim, Calvim and Corjuem, and sent for testing at the laboratory located at Assonora water treatment plant.
Ticlo said that for the last few days, there has been a water turbidity issue because of canal water supplied to the Assonora plant.
“The water quality checked was found to be within permissible limits, but moment we received discolored water it was worry for everyone,” said Ticlo.
Accordingly, on Wednesday again water samples were collected by PWD officials along with assistant engineer of Assonora water treatment plant, Caitan Menezes, from different water tanks in the Aldona constituency to check water quality.
“We came to check quality of the water because there was a complaint of reddish water. After the MLA intervened we checked the quality of water and it was found that tap water is good within permissible limit,” said assistant engineer Menezes.
He further said that “we have now collected samples from tanks and will be testing the samples.”
