Villagers oppose ongoing garbage plant work at Khola

Demand shifting of plant to a forest or communidade land

Canacona: Opposing the ongoing garbage plant work at Khola, villagers from Matimoll ward demanded to shift the garbage plant away to a forest, devalaya or communidade land away from the present residential busy area in Khola.

Locals of Matimoll ward of Khola panchayat opposed the ongoing excavation work for the garbage plant in the panchayat area meant to store and segregate the dry waste of the Khola village panchayat.

Locals raised objections to the garbage site as the area is almost 50 metres away from an existing hotel, a house and a hall where religious activities of worshipping Sarvajanik Ganapati and other pujas take place.

Rupesh Prabhudesai from Khola said that people are against the garbage site as in due time it will spoil the existing environment of the place which is a prime area of the villagers, where local youth gather in the evenings, people run businesses related to food and it’s a centre point of the village. If a garbage plant comes in this prime location, people will start throwing garbage here as hundreds of people pass this place everyday he said.

Locals also voiced that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is supportive in all issues and said that he will understand that this is an issue of the local villagers and not of a few locals when it will be brought to his notice.

The garbage site should be located elsewhere in the area belonging to the forest department to avoid issues cropping up in the future related to public safety and health demanded the locals.
