Panaji: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah has advised Calangute MLA and Ports Minister Michael Lobo to stay in the party and not to worry about his political future.
Lobo on Thursday met Shah in New Delhi in the presence of former Maharashtra chief minister and BJP’s Goa election in-charge Devendra Fadnavis.
Lobo told reporters after reaching Goa that the meeting with Shah was to discuss the upcoming state legislative assembly elections.
“I was called to discuss the upcoming assembly elections. There was nothing related to ticket. The discussion was purely about Goa, which is heading for elections in the next three months,” he said.
Lobo said he has told the party leaders in New Delhi about the ground reality while discussing BJP’s prospects in the upcoming assembly elections.
When asked whether any party has approached him to join it, Lobo replied that many parties approach many MLAs. On a question about his wife Delilah Lobo planning to contest from Siolim constituency, he said the people of Siolim want her to contest the upcoming elections and added that she has been working there for a long time.
“She will contest on her own as an Independent candidate. She does not require my support,” he claimed.
It may be noted that Lobo is not happy with the functioning of the party and also promoting his wife to contest from Siolim constituency.
As there were reports that Lobo is planning to contest on Congress ticket and also eyeing the Siolim constituency for his wife, Fadnavis had visited Lobo’s residence in Parra during his visit to Goa a few days back.
