Ramarao Wagh and several others detained for protesting against fresh attempt to demolish kiosks outside GMC

Digital Goa, Sept 27 – Police have detained BJP leader Ramarao Wagh, social activist Rama Kankonkar and 15 others for protesting outside GMC Hospital against demolition of kiosks there. Vendors had setup makeshift kiosks for selling fruits and other items after their kiosks were demolished by the authorities in July. Protest erupted after authorities tried to vacate the kiosks today morning following High court order. Police arrested the protestors and also removed the makeshift kiosks. Deputy Sarpanch of Curca Panchayat Marvin Gonsalves informed that the High Court gave the order to vacate the fruit vendors and other kiosks after 5 kiosks owners who have set up their kiosks under the Dindayal Scheme moved the court against the vacating order. Gonsalves said, the commotion occurred as govt wrongly informed the high court that that the place presently occupied by the fruit vendors was vacant. He said that affected panchayats will take a resolution and file a review petition in this regards. Prior to the demolition, there were in all 40 kiosks of different types in the area of which 5 were set up under the Deendayal scheme. Incidentally, two new kiosks were installed by the authorities after vacating the fruit vendors.
