Rahul has assured reward to party loyalists: Agnelo

Former Congress MLA from Calangute constituency Agnelo Fernandes, who met senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Delhi on Tuesday claimed that Gandhi has assured him that party loyalists would be rewarded and ‘opportunists’ will not be entertained by the Congress leadership.

“Rahul ji has promised me that loyal Congress workers and leaders will be rewarded at appropriate time and has also given a word that opportunists will be kept aside,” Fernandes said.

He informed that Gandhi inquired why Luizinho Faleiro quit the party and also about the prevailing political situation in Goa.

“I told him that he resigned from the party, as he was sidelined by the party leadership. He (Rahul Gandhi) asked me how I can say that…Rahul ji said that he had offered the GPCC

presidentship to Luizinho and he refused to accept his offer on health grounds,” Fernandes said.

It is pertinent to note that amidst the rumours floating around that Fernandes, who is Faleiro’s close aide, has been approached by TMC’s poll strategist I-PAC, the Congress high command had summoned him to the national capital on Tuesday.

During his visit, Fernandes also met AICC senior election observer to Goa P Chidambaram and AICC general secretary K C Venugopal.
