Ethanol production plant to come up in Dharbandora

Cabinet gives nod to appoint consultant

Panaji: The state cabinet on Thursday gave its approval to appoint Pune-based Deccan Sugar Technologist Association as consultant for setting up an ethanol production plant at Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana in Dharbandora.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the consultant will prepare a detailed project report for setting up a 40 kilolitres per day (KPLD) ethanol production plant at the Sanjivani sugar factory in Dharbandora.

“The central government has assured the state of providing funds to the tune of Rs 56 crore at low interest rate to set up an ethanol production plant at the Sanjivani sugar factory. The state government will pay Rs 4 lakh to the consultant firm for preparing DPR for the plant. The DPR will be sent to the Centre once it is ready,” he said.

Sawant assured that the existing staff of the sugar factory will be retained and sugar as well as ethanol will be produced in the factory.

The cabinet once again granted a one-year extension to the offshore casinos operating on River Mandovi.

With this cabinet decision, the casino vessels anchored in the Mandovi can continue with their operations for another year from October 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022.

Addressing media after the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the state cabinet has granted the extension to the offshore casinos to remain on Mandovi river till an alternative location is recommended to them. “The process of shifting the offshore casino vessels from River Mandovi is on,” he added.

Since 2014, the state government has kept granting extensions to the six casino vessels, thereby allowing them to operate on the River Mandovi. Existing extension given to the offshore casinos expired on September 30, 2021.

Sawant also informed that the cabinet has granted approval to the draft Goa Start-up Policy 2021 and it will be uploaded on the government website for suggestions and objections before finalisation.

“Some changes have been suggested in the policy. The previous one was not start-up-friendly,” he said, adding that to ensure that several problems, which had cropped up with the earlier policy, do not occur again, the new policy will be put up on the website.

The Goa Start-up Policy 2017 lapsed in September 2020 and was given a six-month extension twice. The latest extension ended on September 27, 2021.

The Chief Minister also said the cabinet has refused to grant relaxation in the clause mandating knowledge of Konkani for the posts of principals of Goa College of Art and Goa College of Architecture. Sawant said both the professional colleges had sought relaxation in the clause.

The cabinet gave its nod for notifying the solar roof system scheme.
