Curtorim VP set to crack down on illegal structures

Margao: The Curtorim village panchayat is all set to act against illegal structures in its jurisdiction. Curtorim sarpanch Milagres Rodrigues on Thursday said that action will be started within the next fifteen days. He informed that there are multi-storied structures coming up illegally in the village and hence it is the duty of the panchayat to take action and protect the village.

“We have so far identified eight big illegal structures, of which half are under construction in Eklladem ward of Curtorim. And, what is worrying is that these structures are constructed by outsiders fearlessly by bypassing the panchayat. We have decided collectively to take action against the illegal structures especially as they are used for commercial benefits,” Rodrigues added.

The sarpanch further informed that the panchayat has decided to carry out inspection in all the wards to identify the illegal structures.

Rodrigues revealed that new illegal constructions are coming up in Curtorim and that by the time the panchayat issues notices and stop-work orders, the illegal constructions are already nearing completion and at times the panchayat is helpless. He maintained that under his leadership, the panchayat will not allow illegal constructions.

This apart, the sarpanch claimed that there are few persons developing their land considering the demand for plots by keeping the panchayat in the dark.

“We will exercise all our powers to take action against such illegalities,” the sarpanch maintained.

It may be recalled that the issue of illegal constructions in the village of Curtorim was hotly debated in gram sabhas. There were allegations by members of the gram sabha that without the support of the elected representatives, such illegal structures cannot come up in the village areas.

VP to inspect illegal construction at Vagulem today

Margao: Sarpanch of Curtorim village panchayat Milagres Rodrigues on Thursday informed that the panchayat has fixed a site inspection of an illegal construction at Vagulem, Curtorim on Friday.

“We had issued stop work notice to one Allam Sayad and three others, all residents of Gogol, Fatorda for carrying out illegal construction at Vagulem, Curtorim. He was given five days time to explain why he did not take the panchayat’s permission and why he and his other (partners) are doing such illegality,” the sarpanch said.

Curtorim panchayat had on September 28 issued Sayad the stop work notice. Since there was no response, the panchayat has decided to carry out site inspection on Friday to take further action. The file has been submitted to the panchayat without the necessary documents.
