Panaji: Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shobha Karandlaje on Thursday said the Centre is keen on setting up an Integrated Agriculture College in Goa.
Karandlaje is currently on a two-day visit to Goa.
“An Integrated Agriculture College is needed in Goa, having divisions of horticulture, pisciculture and sericulture.” Karandlaje stated, adding that the central government will help the government of Goa to set up one.
“The Union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen to extend the requisite assistance for setting up such an institution in Goa,” she further informed, observing that this will enhance agriculture in the state.
Karandlaje appealed to the local farmers to avail the benefits from all the centrally sponsored schemes.
The Union minister paid a visit to the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Goa and interacted with officials and farmers, as also planted a sapling at the campus.
Furthermore, she honoured Darshana Pednekar, the progressive farmer from Parra, who is using several modern farming practices to make farming a lucrative business option. The Union Minister also met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and discussed various facets of agriculture in Goa including setting up of Integrated Agriculture College.
Sawant said that in line with the ‘One District, One Product’ scheme of the Union government, Goa was mooting a plan of ‘One Taluka, One Product’. He also expressed confidence in increasing exports in pisciculture.
