Preliminary report submitted to health director over sexual abuse incident
Mapusa: Taking cognizance of the sexual abuse incident, North Goa District Hospital authority has decided to install CCTV camera surveillances in the hospital premises. The hospital authority has also submitted a preliminary report to the health director to take necessary action against the ward boy who is in police custody.
It may be recalled that Mapusa police had arrested a ward boy attached to the North Goa District Hospital at Peddem for sexually abusing two minor siblings in the lift of the hospital while the victim›s mother was being shifted for treatment.
The family of the victims lodged a complaint against the ward boy of North Goa District Hospital Govind Sawant a resident of Valpoi for sexually abusing the minors, siblings of 17 and 13 years in the hospital lift. The incident took place on September 23 at 3 pm and then on September 25 at 9.45 am inside the lift of the North Goa District Hospital.
Police said that the accused person took advantage of the situation of being inside the hospital lift and contacted the minor siblings to advance personal interaction with them; the alleged accused sexually abused them by touching them inappropriately without their wish. Police said that the accused further tried to contact the victim by calling on the mobile.
In this connection the Mapusa police registered an offence under Section 354, 354-A, 354- D of Indian Penal Code, Section 8 of Goa Children›s Act and Section 8 and 10 of POCSO Act against the accused Govind Sawant and arrested him. The local court remanded the accused to five days police custody.
In this connection an inquiry was conducted by the medical superintendent along with senior doctors and submitted a report to the Directorate of Health Service.
When contacted, the medical superintendent of North Goa District Hospital, Dr Swati Mulgaonkar informed that they have decided to install CCTV cameras in the hospital premises to avoid such incidents.
“We have also submitted a report to the director who will take necessary action against the ward boy” said Dr Mulgaonkar.
