Panaji: Around 28 youths in the state so far received skill training in the customized crash course programme for COVID warriors, revealed Dipak Desai, director of directorate of skill development and entrepreneurship (DSDE) on Friday.
Desai said that the trained students have been placed in government and private hospitals, where they will assist front-line doctors and healthcare workers in taking care of coronavirus patients.
“The trained students will get the status of COVID warriors,” he disclosed.
He said that two batches of students have completed the crash course programme, which was launched in the state in July 18.
Under the Skill India Mission of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, New Delhi, the state has a total target of skilling 1207 youth as COVID warriors, of which 120 are under the state component and the remaining 1,087 candidates under national component.
Desai spoke post a DSDE valedictory function for 21 students who won the India Skills Goa Competition- 2021 held at the Taleigao community hall.
The 21 students will next participate in the regional leg of the competition to be held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat in October, followed by the national level competition in Bengaluru.
Winners of the India Skill Competition will get to participate in the World Skill Competition in Shanghai in 2022.
In all, 1291 students from various Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the state enrolled for the competition of which 141 were selected to participate in the district-level contests.
The district-level competition was followed by the state-level contest in which 39 students were contestants.
“All the students who participated in the Skill Competition are winners,” said C R Garg, secretary of the Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Goa, who was the chief guest at the function, which was attended by Akshay A Shirwaiker, assistant controller of examination, Rajesh Loyekar, assistant director of DSDE, Capt Kaustav Nath, state engagement officer, NSDC, jury members, members of Goan industry, principals of ITIs, teachers and students.
