Primary Health Centre inaugurated at Cansaulim
Margao: While inaugurating the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Cansaulim on Sunday, the Health Minister Vishwajit Rane assured to commission a cardiac unit at the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) by November 30.
The Cansaulim PHC is one of the 18 centres in the state, which will be using STEMI facility, wherein cardiac patients will be diagnosed and treated for heart ailments at the PHC itself.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, Rane said, “A lot of efforts being put in, especially, at the time of COVID. We should be proud of what our country has done. By November 30, we will be commissioning the cardiac unit in South Goa similar to the unit that is at the GMC. We are ensuring best healthcare facilities for the people. A hospital for treatment of cancer is also being planned to ensure the state-of-the art facilities for patients, and is being planned to be launched by October.”
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stressed on how the government has done its best to cater to the healthcare needs despite the pandemic.
“No government has given free treatment to the COVID patients. DDSSY card has been renewed automatically, and beneficiaries are getting free treatment in private hospitals of upto Rs 4 lakh. We did this automatically because we don’t want people to risk their lives because of COVID. This government is listening to the people of Goa. Only Goa has given free COVID treatment. Many people have lost their lives due to COVID, and to their families, the government is giving Rs 2 lakh as a support,” he said.
Cansaulim PHC, which caters to a population of around 52,000, was inaugurated on Sunday, and will provide both preventive and curative services to the patients.
“Among the services, there will be a dialysis service, X-ray machines, ultra sound machines, casualty services, emergency care and STEMI programme which will cater specifically to heart patients. This centre is the 18th centre in the state, and will be providing echocardiogram facility to the patients,” said director of Directorate of Health Services (DHS) Dr Jose D’Sa.
Meanwhile, Dr Guruprasad, a cardiologist at the GMC’s cardiac unit said the STEMI facility would be of great help to the cardiac patients.
“In the past, patients would be transferred to the GMC after going to Hospicio from this PHC. From here on, with the Cansaulim PHC having the STEMI facility, anyone with heart issues can get diagnosed and get treated here at the PHC itself. They will be able to consult doctors, and initiate treatment at the PHC itself with the help of teleconferencing facility and if required they can be transferred to the GMC. This will help a great deal since we have diagnosed and treated around 3,000 heart attack patients in the past three years,” said Dr Guruprasad.
Also present during the inauguration were GDIDC vice chairman Joshua D’Souza, Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha, Cansaulim sarpanch Fervin Saldanha and other doctors.
