Ponda: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday announced that the government will start telemedicine consultation in the state from October 2 onwards with an aim of providing medical assistance to people through phone consultation thus avoiding physical visits to hospitals for minor medical care in this pandemic situation.
He was speaking as chief guest at Betki in Khandola in Priol constituency during the foundation stone laying ceremony for the proposed new premises of primary health centre.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude, Health Director Dr Jose D’Sa, Zilla Panchayat member Sramesh Bhosle and others including sarpanchas of seven village panchayats connected to the Betki primary health centre were present on the occasion.
Speaking about the government’s plan to provide better healthcare facilities, the Chief Minister said the government will launch ‘health for all, vision for all’ programme soon. He said the programme will aim at
providing not just the government schemes, but also healthcare facilities at the doorstep of the people by making best use of the digital medium.
Sawant said the telemedicine consultation system will be started as a part of this programme wherein any patient in the state will be able to obtain guidance from a doctor over phone. “This will help reduce actual hospitalisation of people having minor complications. Doctors will carry out a proper inquiry of the patients through telecommunication and if there is really a need, only then the patients will be hospitalised,” the Chief Minister said and added that the initiative will help people, especially senior citizens and housewives.
Sawant urged people to come forward to make Goa self-sufficient and added that the construction of the new building of the Betki primary health centre will be completed in 18 months.
Speaking on the occasion, the Health Minister said that with an aim of improving healthcare facilities in rural areas of the state, the government will instal an auto analyser machine for blood test in all the primary health centres across the state. “It will help in around 28 types of blood tests that can be performed with just two drops of blood,” Rane said. “Tests are successfully conducted in the Goa Medical College and Hospital using such machines and in the coming few days, the machine will be installed in various primary health centres in a phased manner,” he added.
Rane said the primary health centre at Betki will be converted into a community health centre and the entire necessary infrastructure will be provided in the upcoming premises. The health centre, which caters to over 33,000 people from seven surrounding village panchayats is very much a community health centre, Rane said.
Gaude expressed happiness over the commencement of the work for the new premises of the health centre.
