Mapusa : Anjuna police arrested Denis Kriuchkoy, a 47-year-old Russian, for murdering his female friend Ekaterina Titova (34), who was found dead in her bedroom in a rented room at Oxel.
Police said the accused killed his friend, also a Russian, by compressing her nose and mouth.
It is pertinent to note here that an unnatural death case was registered on August 19 after Titova was found lying dead on the bed in the rented house.
The house was rented to Kriuchkoy, who had been absconding since August 19.
Police had preserved the dead body and informed the Russian embassy.
On Friday, postmortem was conducted on the body at the Goa Medical College and Hospital in the presence of an embassy representative.
The postmortem report clearly indicated that the death was not a suicide but murder.
The murder was committed by compressing the woman’s nose and mouth.
A murder case was registered under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code against Kriuchkoy.
A police team under the supervision of deputy superintendent of police Gajanan Prabhu Dessai, tracked down Kriuchkoy on Saturday evening and arrested him.
Meanwhile, autopsy was also conducted on the dead body of Alexandra RI Djavi (24), a Russian national who was declared ‘brought dead’ at the primary health centre at Siolim
A report indicated that the death occurred due to suicide.
Djavi ended her life in a rented house at Oxel. The suicide came to light after her boyfriend came back to the room and found that the door was latched from inside.
There was no response for knocks and calls. Hence he climbed on the metal roof and entered the room.
