Govt to explore alliance with start-ups for speedy delivery of services

Panaji: Stating that the government would soon revise the Start-up Policy, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday said the government will also be exploring avenues whereby start-ups could partner with the government to improve governance and accelerate the phase of delivery of services.

“This will create a symbiotic ecosystem,” Sawant added, pointing out that Goa is one of the first four states in the country to implement a Start-up Policy, and the government would very soon revise this policy, with lot of additional changes, which will benefit the upcoming start-ups.

“Over the last few years, many start-ups and tech companies have done very well even in newer technology domains like Internet of Things (IoT), crypto-currency, Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and so on, as also many start-ups have emerged during the corona pandemic,” he noted, informing that as of today, the state department of information technology has certified more than 100 start-ups in Goa.

The Chief Minister was speaking during the launch of Antha Prerna, a Start-up Conclave and Entrepreneurship Summit, in the city. Minister for Information Technology Jennifer Monserrate was the guest of honour on the occasion.

Speaking further, Sawant said that phase 2 of the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Swayampurna Goa’ initiative will go beyond agriculture, horticulture, dairy etc and comprise of services provided by professionals from various sectors. “Let start-up cells and start-up companies emerge from every village across Goa,” he observed.

Addressing the inaugural session of the summit, the Chief Minister stated, “Goa is fast becoming the preferred base for start-ups in India and our vision is to see Goa featuring in the top 25 start-up destinations in Asia by 2025.”

“I believe start-ups need an ecosystem created in order to foster a culture of ideation and innovation,” he mentioned, informing that the government is also launching the future skill training programme initiative by National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), in Goa.

On a parting note, Sawant said Goa will soon have the Bharat broadband project implemented, so as to ensure very strong internet connectivity. “Ease of doing business for start-ups is another area the government is actively working on,” he maintained, concluding that achievement of innovation and export-oriented growth for start-ups in Goa, is what he believes in.
