Curchorem: Under the National Health Volunteers Training programme, a special session was organised at Ravindra Bhavan-Curchorem wherein around 300 volunteers from Curchorem, Sanguem and Sanvordem constituencies participated.
Dr Shekhar Salkar is the in-charge, Dr Sneha Bhagwat is the co-incharge and Sidhrath Kunkolienkar is the coordinator of these sessions that are being organised throughout the state.
The programme was inaugurated by Power Minister Nilesh Cabral in the presence of PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar, ex-MLA of Sanguem Subhash Phal Dessai, South Goa ZP chairperson Suvarna Tendulkar, Dr Uday Kakodkar, Dr Vinayak Buvaji, Dr Dharmendra Prabhudessai and others.
Addressing the volunteers, Dr Salkar said that the volunteers training programme is an ambitious programme of the central government and the aim is to train 4 lakh volunteers who will cover around 2 lakh villages in the country.
“I myself, Dr Sneha and Dr Sharma took this one-day training at Delhi and now we are imparting the training to the state level and district-level volunteers. Five such sessions will be organised in the state which will cover all the 40 constituencies. The volunteers will be trained how to wear the mask, check the oxygen level, use a thermal gun and take a walking test with the help of a demonstration. Training will also be imparted on boosting immunity. The intention is to give free and fair services to the people in respect of the COVID-19.”
“One male and one female volunteer will be trained for each booth and they will approach the people in their area, understand their problems and solve their issues by contacting us,” he said.
He told the volunteers to note down the contact number of the concerned doctors, PHCs, CHCs, PCR van, etc and try to win over people so that they will contact them whenever they have any health problems.
“You have to respond to them immediately and help them get rid of their problems,” he stated.
All the volunteers will be given preference whenever they will call any doctor or health authority. “You can also send massages to me and I will promptly reply to your queries,” he said.
The others who spoke on the occasion were Power Minister Nilesh Cabral, PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar, Subhash Phaldessai, Dr Vinayak Buvaji, Dr Uday Kakodkar and Dr Dharmendra Prabhudessai.
Later speaking to this daily, Dr Salkar said that “though we are anticipating the third wave there is nothing much to be worried about. Almost 70 per cent of the elderly people are vaccinated and the vaccination for children is expected to be available in September or October.”
“Another good news is that during the antibody surveillance carried out by us, it was found that 68 per cent of the children have gone through the stage of COVID. Rest about 30 per cent of the children we shall have to take care of. The government has already provided sufficient funds for the provision of infrastructure for children in view of the third wave. The health authorities are working in this direction. There are less chances of elderly people getting affected during the third wave. But we have to take care of the children between the age group 12 to 18 years due to their outdoor movement,” he said.
