Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao on Saturday said the work would soon begin on Carmona sports complex and sports ground and that he would put in all effort to complete the construction of Benaulim- Sinquetim bridge.
Speaking to media persons at his Varca office, Alemao said he had raised the issue of the completion of the bridge at the assembly session.
“It is the duty of the local MLA to raise the people’s issues in the assembly. I too raised several issues and one is that of the completion of Benaulim-Sinquetim bridge that was put on hold for many years and is now restarted. It will benefit the people,” he said.
Alemao informed that the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) had recently issued a tender for the upgradation of sports complex in Carmona under the Deendayal Panchayat Raj Infrastructure Development Scheme 2013. This work is estimated to cost around Rs 1.95 crore. Additionally, another sports ground in the village of Carmona, costing an estimated Rs 7 crore, is also under proposal, he informed.
Meanwhile, former Benaulim MLA Francisco Xavier ‘Mickky’ Pacheco criticised the chief minister over the recent gangrape case reported in Benaulim saying there was collapse of security in the state and demanded resignation of the Chief Minister for failure to maintain law and order and ensure safety of women and children.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, Pacheco questioned the collapse of security despite invoking the National Security Act. “I demand immediate resignation of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant for failing to protect the people of Goa especially women and minors even though there was NSA invoked in South Goa and movement of people is restricted. He should resign for failing to provide basic security to women and minors,” he said.
Pacheco also questioned the current Benaulim MLA’s silence during the three-day monsoon session of the legislative assembly on the NSA failure as various crimes like rape, theft, murder were plaguing the state of Goa especially South Goa, including Benaulim and Quepem.
“None of the legislators argued in the House over why crimes were happening in South Goa when NSA is enforced. The brutal gangrape of the two minors in Benaulim and another case in Quepem, which is Deputy CM’s constituency, are a blot on Goa, thanks to an incompetent government,” he said.
