As part of the party’s nationwide agitation on Pegasus project report, the Congress party on Tuesday lodged its protest before Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai and submitted a memorandum, through him, to the President Ram Nath Kovind demanding a Supreme Court-monitored judicial probe into the entire episode.
“We demand a transparent and independent probe against all the officials who are involved in snoopgate. We have demanded the government to come out with a statement on the issue and to clarify if they were using this spyware. We have also demanded a Supreme Court-monitored judicial probe on this illegal and unconstitutional hacking that targeted prominent citizens and constitutional functionaries,” GPCC president Girish Chodankar said, while interacting with media persons outside Raj Bhavan at Dona Paula after meeting the Governor.
Chodankar, who led the Congress delegation to Governor along with CLP leader Digambar Kamat, informed that they submitted another memorandum to the Governor highlighting the “failures” of the BJP government and demanded dismissal of the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant-led government.
He said that the Congress delegation informed the Governor that the state is facing economic slowdown and there is collapse of law and order due to complete mismanagement of the government.
“We have raised various issues concerning the state and we hope the new Governor will take proactive steps to give relief to the people. We want the government to provide financial assistance to people particularly those involved in traditional businesses,” said Digambar Kamat.
“There is a threat to the environment, forest, wildlife and the identity of Goa. The failure of the government to come out with an action plan to address the issues concerning the lives and livelihoods of the people have created fear, apprehensions and insecurity in the minds of the people” reads the memorandum.
The memorandum has highlighted the issues of three linear projects passing through wildlife protected areas, and other burning issues of the state like Coal transportation and CZMP.
The memorandum also mentions the deaths of COVID patients who allegedly died due to lack of oxygen, failure of government to protect River Mhadei, failure to resume mining activities and the failure of government to revive tourism industry.
