Panaji: Admitting that most of the electric buses received by the Kadamba Transport Corporation, earlier this year, are presently in unused condition, Minister for Transport Mauvin Godinho on Friday said that he has pulled up the Corporation for not putting to use these vehicles.
The KTCL, in March 2021, had received zero emission and noiseless buses deployed by Olectra Greentech Ltd, a leading player among electric bus manufacturers in the country.
Speaking further, Godinho said that the operator of these electric buses was supposed to provide infrastructure facility for the vehicles, including setting up of charging stations.
“However, since the operator has failed to do so, the KTC has not been able to put the 30 electric buses received by it to use on Goan routes,” he added.
Minister for Transport, who was speaking after flagging off the new enforcement vehicles of the directorate of transport, in the assembly complex premises on Friday, stated that the KTC will not receive the remaining buses from the provider unless and until the operator provides the infrastructure facility for its 30 electric buses.
Presently, the KTC has the sole charging station for its electric buses at Margao, and it is awaiting funding from the state and the central governments for setting up of the charging stations in other areas.
The KTC had also planned to place 2 of the buses in the special airport bus service.
