Extorting money from job seekers: order on accused’s bail plea on Aug 2

The District and Sessions Court, North Goa has reserved the order to August 2, on bail applications of five of the accused persons Vishal Goswami, Alex D’souza, Robinson D’souza, Anurag Kumar and Sanju Singh, who were arrested in connection with the racket involved in allegedly extorting money from gullible overseas job seekers and kidnapping a man from Punjab, also an overseas
job seeker.

Earlier, the court had rejected the bail applications of Pradeep Kumar, Ashish Tripati, Vijay Gogayan, Anil Kumar and Sushil Singh. The case was registered at the Porvorim police station and later transferred to the Crime Branch police, Ribandar.

Other similar case registered at the Vasco police station was also transferred to the crime branch. Crime branch police had filed chargesheet in the cases and had obtained permission from the concerned courts in the North Goa and the South Goa to carry out further investigation.

It may be recalled that in February this year, 12 accused were arrested by the police in connection with the racket involved in allegedly extorting money from gullible overseas job seekers and kidnapping an Afghan national. Police during the raid in a bungalow in Porvorim had rescued two persons, one Afghan national and another from Punjab.
