Laxman Chavan also known as Pika, a resident of Moti Dongor-Margao has been arrested for murder of 47-year-old Sachit Borkar from Aquem-Margao.
Margao police investigation has revealed that the accused Laxman Chavan had entered into an altercation with the deceased Sachit Borkar over some comment referring to a woman following which Laxman pushed and assaulted Sachit with a chair on the head causing serious injuries. Sachit, who became unconscious, was taken to Margao Hospicio hospital and since his condition deteriorated he was shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim but while undergoing treatment
he died.
Based on a complaint, an offence under Section 302 of IPC has been registered against Chavan. Borkar had died due to head injury, said police.
South Goa SP Pankaj Kumar Singh said that on July 26 at 11.39 pm, one Suraj Virdeker had lodged a complaint with Margao police that at the Aquem side of Konkan railway station in front of a kiosk,
Laxman had assaulted Sachit after an altercation causing head injury to the latter and Sachit died at GMC, Bambolim. He said that based on the complaint, an offence under Section 302 of IPC for murder has been registered and further investigation is in progress.
It may be recalled that 50 persons from Margao had on Monday gathered in front of the Margao police station demanding inquiry into the death of Sachit stating that it is a case of murder.
Police had initially ruled out any foul play however on Monday late night, Margao police had registered a case of murder.
