Ponda: Cracking a scooter theft case, the Ponda police, on Friday, arrested two residents of Usgao, both Karnataka natives, for the crime, and recovered the stolen scooter from them.
The Ponda police said that the arrested alleged accused Deepak Mendigalkar (28), a resident of Kasalya – Usgao and Jyotiba Bidikar (33), a resident of Siddeshwarnagar, Usgao, were remanded to 5-day police custody by the JMFC, Ponda.
The police said that the incident had occurred in the first week of July, when the complainant Namdev Gingine, a resident of Tisk-Usgao had gone for the overnight stay in Valpoi after parking his Activa scooter, bearing registration number GA 05 N 6832 near Gauri Bar. When he returned to the same spot the next day his scooter was missing. He tried to search for it, but could not trace it and then filed a complaint with the Ponda police.
The scooter owner in his complaint had stated that the scooter was worth Rs 60,000, and a cash of Rs 27,000 and one gold ring worth Rs 22,000 were kept in the dickey of the scooter.
The accused in the theft case were identified based on a CCTV footage, and after conducting inquiry, they were nabbed with the stolen scooter, said the police.
Offence has been registered against both the accused under Section 379 of the IPC, the police said.
