The Travel and Tourism Association of Goa  on Tuesday said that it would be wrong to take a generalised view that businesses in the North Goa coastal belt are being hounded by the police or local lawmakers for monetary inducements.

“The way the hospitality industry has taken off in the state, it would not have been possible unless there was conducive environment for entrepreneurs to do business,” TTAG president Nilesh Shah said, adding  that anybody doing business legally is free to go to the court if harassed.

“I am not talking about a particular case. But it would be wrong to make a sweeping statement that the police and various government officials are targeting businesses for gains,” maintained the TTAG president.

According to Shah, the pandemic has made all businesses “suffer in a big way” and it is necessary for government to extend monetary help to the hospitality industry to prevent business owners from “exiting”.

On Monday Goans were shocked by the news that the iconic night club Tito’s  at Calangute is sold by the owners.

The Club Tito’s attracts partygoers from all over the world.

A Facebook post by Ricardo D’Souza, one of the two brothers who owned the club,  said  that Tito’s had to be sold as he faced harassment from the state government.

Sources in the hospitality industry said the two brothers may have decided to sell off after receiving a “big fat valuation” for the Tito’s brand name.

“Big businessmen are exiting once they get a good valuation, and the Tito’s owners must have done the same,” reckoned the source.

Local business circles are excited with the news that the owner of  the LPK Waterfront Club at Nerul is the buyer of Tito’s. The new owner received  congratulatory messages on Twitter and social media.

South Goa-based Nandan Kuchadkar tweeted, “De Future is bright, Gr88 things on the horizon for LPK, including iconic acquisition- finally it all about Love Passion Karma.”

The Tito’s brand includes a cafĂ© and a discotheque, both highly popular and money-spinning as well as several related businesses.
