GSPCB nod for trial run of bio-medical waste treatment

The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has granted consent to operate for trial run of common bio-medical waste treatment facility (CBWTF) set up by Delhi-based Biotic Waste Solutions Pvt Ltd at Kundaim industrial estate.

The board has granted the consent for six-month period based on the recommendation of its technical advisory committee to handle the load created by the pandemic.

The plant had received consent to establish from GSPCB in January 2020 and environmental clearance (EC) from Goa State Environment Impact Assessment Authority in September 2019. The unit is set up on a 10,000 sqmts area of Kundaim Industrial Estate on a design, build, operate and transfer basis wherein the plant infrastructure will be implemented by the company along with operations and maintenance for a period of 20 years.

According to the data on COVID-19 waste generation shared by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) with the National Green Tribunal, Goa on an a daily basis on an average generates 48-50 kg of COVID-19 related bio-medical waste and 3,000 kg daily medical waste of non-COVID nature from 216 clinics, 65 pathological laboratories and 153 hospitals and nursing homes.
