‘Goa only state in the country to provide free COVID treatment’

Health Minister appeals to people to get vaccinated

Mapusa: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, on Sunday, said that Goa is the only state in the country that has provided free COVID treatment and testing for its people, and appealed to everyone to get vaccinated.

Rane was speaking at a felicitation programme for healthcare staffers of the Primary Health Centre, Siolim.

In a bid to appreciate the efforts and hard work put in by the healthcare staffers of the health centre during the COVID-19 pandemic, a felicitation programme was organised. 

Rane in the presence of former WRD minster and Siolim MLA Vinod Paliencar, former Siolim MLA Dayanand Mandrekar felicitated the healthcare staffers.

Health director Dr Jose D’Sa, Dr Rajendra Borkar and others were also present.

During the programme over 60 healthcare staffers were felicitated, and included doctors Dr Umali Kerkar, Dr Raksha Borkar, Dr Varsha Parsekar, Dr Pushkar Mahale, Dr Joshua Dias, Dr Carissa Pinto.

The efforts of the nurses, housekeeping staff and security guards, who have worked tirelessly during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic were appreciated.

Addressing the gathering, Rane said that  “we are thankful to everyone who  worked and managed to keep Goa safe.”

“Goa is the only state in the country which has given full COVID treatment to its people. Even testing is also free for Goans because our only focus is to take care of everyone’s health. While in other states like Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka patients were asked to buy medicines,” he said.

He further said that the state government has worked, and created all the infrastructure required for treatment, like super specialty hospital, South Goa District Hospital at Margao and others.

The Health Minister further said that those staffers who were recruited on a contract basis and worked during the pandemic will be given justice.
